You want a chance to get a FREE PRINT of original artwork
? How about a chance to win one of a kind embossed leather bracers?
Then support the BLOGATHON campaign
for the Lullis M. Ritter Animal Shelter (TriCounty Humane Society)
I'm going to be doing this ALL DAY Saturday (24 hours straight through), and the more support we can get the better! We'd love it if you could stop in and support the no-kill Animal Shelter (and keeping me awake :P) by going and commenting, posting links and banners in your own journal/site, or donating.. whatever it takes. It doesn't matter what you do, but remember that even just $1 counts. Plus, every dollar we donate helps one more puppy or kitten with shots, food, adoption..
You may be thinking "What's in it for me? Why should I donate to this blogathon instead of sending my money to somewhere else?" If you need incentive other than to just be helping save abandoned, abused, and neglected animals you will definitely want to stay tuned to our blog! As in the previous years I will be offering incentives (other than the ones mentioned) to donate during the 24 hours. Not only will I be raising money for the shelter but for every $20 raised I will also be donating an hour of volunteer time to the shelter. I will be entertaining you with anecdotes about spotlight animals from the shelter, personal accounts, little known facts about pets, phone posts, photo posts, and requests from those who pledge, and offering prizes, as well as abasing myself for your pleasure (and donations ;).
You can check out the specific details for it here
(and subsequent posts that answer questions, like here
), and you can get banners to post here
if you're interested.
How can you resist the puppies and kitties?!

Well, hello, blogathon2005 community! I'm JoSelle, one of the monitors for Saturday's event. Amd I'm going to tell you a wee bit about my own blog for the 'thon.
Like many published fiction writers, I'll be well...writing fiction on the big day. The journal for this project is
EDIT: Just realized I'd accidently signed up to blog on this journal, upstart_crow
. Since it's too late to change this now, I'll just be posting the stories on a special paid filter here. Regardless, I'll be posting 12 stories (one for each hour) all day long. As the name might imply, each story will be about a river. From the stream that claimed Ophelia's life to the Ox river (the namesake of Oxford University) recalling his glory days, from some politically deranged Rhine Maidens to a murder ballad on the Ohio, rivers pwn me every hour, on the half hour August 6.
Want to see a sample story? Why not click here
. If you'd like to see some other writing samples, feel free to check out this month's edition of Reflections Edge
, which features my short story "The Tragedy of Ferdinand" as well as a review of catvalente
's marvelous second novel Yume no Hon
I'm currently blogging for the Safe Schools Coalition
, a Washington-based organization that seeks to prevent anti-gay bullying in secondary and high schools across the globe. Having known and loved several people who were gay-bashed as children and young adults, this charity is very close to mi corazon. If it's close to your heart, too, why not tap this link
and donate? 1.00 USD gets you on the river_stories
And what better way to do a Blogathon than by offering incentives? Currently I've raised 61.00 for the project. If we somehow reach 100.00 USD, I will write a five-part epic about the world's five Oceans, which will also be posted to upstart_crow
. If we reach 150.00 USD, I will write a prose poem entitled Ebeneezer
-- kind of a modern take on A Christmas Carol
featuring a young, female protagonist (also coincidently named Ebeneezer) and her quest to come to terms with her mortality as she journies through her past, present and into her future with the help of some very unusual spirits. Expect plenty of sexy ghosts, talking cities, figgy puddings and more than the occassional "Bah, Humbug!".
If by some freak chance, I actually raise 200.00 for this event, I will then post the complete text of one of my works. It could be a poetry collection, a novella, or a full-length novel. But I won't reveal just what that secret text will be unless we make it to 200.00. 'Cause I'm devious like that ;)
Happy blogging on the 6th to all! And if I may say so, August 5th is my 25th birthday. For serious. And in lieu of gifts, I'd just love a little donation. :)
Cheers! Also, let me know if you'd like me to advertise your blog project on my main LJ.

ATTENTION. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.darkillusion
and possibly muffytaj
and I are running bloginabox
for this coming Blogathon
. So, obviously you should all go and join
/etc. as we are blogging for FictionAlley
. Just cuz of the fun.
For all of you living under that rock: basically Blogathon consists of blogging every half hour, on the half hour, for 24 hours, for charity. And yes, FA is a charity. Or so Lunar tells me.
Anyways I'm going to Lunar's place for the Event, and we have decided that we are going to MAKE A FANDOMY BOX and then at the end of Blogathon, we will, indeed, blog from within that box. Bwaha. It's cuz we rule, obviously. Umm, what else? Oh yeah, you can sponsor upwards of $US1 - but if you sponsor upward of $US5, we (the modsquad) will be writing drabbles, making icons, layouts, etc. Who said bribery never got you anywhere?
Anyway, so the moral is that we rule and you should totally come join the insanity. But mostly that we rule.

Becareful what you write - I've been kicked out!!
Writers, musicians, or anyone for that matter that are using their own personal blog for the blogathon, beware what you write before or after or else you will get kicked out of the blogathon.
I am sooo upset by this. Sheana won't even listen to me, she says the decision is final & says she will ignore any other correspondance I have with her!! WTF??
I was really excited about my campaign. About my charity, about my theme. I took the day off of work to participate & now because of something I said PRIOR to the blogathon, in my own PERSONAL blog, I am being kicked out because of it. Whatever! If I did something wrong, which I don't believe is wrong in the first place. I should have been told to cease & desist. I mean how does one know if it is wrong or against the rules unless you tell them. But to just kick someone out because of something that I have done in the past, in MY PERSONAL BLOG, well I don't know what more to say.

bonjour! comment allez-vous?
I'm Jen and this will be my first year participating in the Blogathon. my page is Agape and Afghan Making
, my "campaign" page is here
, and my charity is afghans for Afghans
. It's a group that sends knitted and crocheted goods to women and children in Central Asia (more specifically Afghanistan). I've crocheted stuff for them before and as a Religious Studies person, I absolutely love what they do. (I'm a conservative Christian who is fascinated by Islam.)
3 string bags

My theme/sponsor gifts?
Last year I didn't have a theme really. I was cleaning my room, an ongoing theme here Every 30 minutes I gave a progress of what I had done & was trying to hold a mini-yard sale of sorts to raise more money. It gave me incentive to clean & it gave me much needed breaks in between to post the progress. I just think it was kinda boring to anyone reading it.
I was thinking to myself - what can I do best? What do I enjoy doing the most? What have I always wanted to do? So now, I think I have an idea as to what I am going to do. Well everyone is amazed at the stuff that I find on the Net. Whenever anyone asks me about something I know a webpage to find it. I know some pretty freaky sites, I know amazing sites, I know really resourceful sites. I could just post a bunch of webpages of interest. Maybe each entry being a different theme, or have a couple of themes each entry. That might be a good idea. It might also be kinda boring too.
I could also incorporate what I have missed doing for soooo long. Teaching people HTML & Intro to the Internet. I used to teach them at work & at the local access channel. I really miss doing it. But I think an Intro to the Internet is perhaps kinda pointless if someone is savvy enough to find out about the blogathon & my blog. So perhaps just HTML? The top of the hour I can do a lesson? The bottom 1/2 of the hour I can do my links?
The only thing that I have about that is the fear of someone else already doing it. This is my problem with writting the story I have in my head. It's kinda a combonation of different stories I have heard before so I feel like I am kinda plagerizing. So I need to get over that, quick. I think 24 posts/lessons are just perfect. I can teach a lot of things that they don't tell you about. A lot of things that beginners mess up on. It can be interactive. People can send me the URL to their websites so I can advertise them & gloat about teaching them to do that It will be a good thing.
Another thing I have always wanted to do was to make a 'zine. For my sponsors that sponsor $25 or more, I will make all of my posts into a 'zine (booklet) for easier access, incase something ever happens to my blog/website. I will also add a few extras in the booklet so you are getting a lot more than what I post during the blogathon. Perhaps once this is done & I proved to myself that I can do it, I can include a subscription for in there, so I can do it again. Perhaps in quarterly installments? Perhaps. So there you have it. That is what I am going to blog about.
I am going to be doing my part. Now you need to do your part, please consider sponsoring me... http://www.blogathon.org/blogathon.php?campaign&id=113
Any amount - access to the other exclusive URL with webcam & a thank you graphic
over $10 - URL/graphic AND a special magnet
over $25 - URL/graphic/magnet AND a booklet of the posts (more later)
over $50 - URL/graphic/magnet/booklet AND ??
over $100 - URL/graphic/magnet/booklet/??? AND ???
Any old pros here?
Ok this is my first official blogathon. Last year I did an unoffical one but lost steam because I had no idea HOW to do it & didn't have any sponsors. This year I have a little more of a clue but not much & still no sponsors.
I need a purpose to the blog. What am I going to do for 24 hours straight? Last time I cleaned my room & updated every 30 minutes on the progress I was making & tried to hold a mini-yard sale of sorts but I don't know if no one reads me or not but I didn't get any interest.
That kinda seems boring. I need something exciting. Something that is going to make people sponsor me. Something that is going to want people to come back & look at my site, see my progress. I don't know what I can do.
I also want to give my sponsors (if I get any) something in return for sponsoring me. I don't know what I can do for them. I have an idea, but like all ideas that most people have, I kinda think it's not good enough. Plus I don't want to have to spend a lot on postage. So I don't know. I wish I could see some past examples of what people did & find out some of their secrets.
I was looking for a press kit for a sample donation request letter but there wasn't one. So I went around the internet & other people's sites looking to see what they wrote. This is what I came up with....
Hi everyone, Well, it's that time of year again... the 2005 Blogathon will start on Saturday, August 6th at 9am EST and run for 24 hours. I am excited to be doing this agan this year.
What is a “Blogathon”? Well remember when you were in school and you would bowl for charity? And for every pin you knocked down you got, say, ten cents? Or run for a dollar a mile? During the Blogathon, people update their websites every 30 minutes for 24 hours straight. For this, they collect sponsorships. Pledges can be a flat donation, or a certain amount for every hour the blogger manages to stay awake.
This year I am blogging for Health Care of All. Health Care For All is dedicated to making quality and affordable health care accessible to everyone in Massachusetts. This is an organization that I feel very strongly about because I have benefited from one of the clinics it funds, the Sharewood Clinic in Malden, MA. Being unemployed really makes you stop & realize how good you had it. Healthcare wasn't a problem as I had benefits. Now without a full-time job with benefits I am finding myself sick & at the mercy of places like Sharewood. Even if you do not live in Massachusetts, I urge you to help this organization & sponsor me this year in the 2005 Blogathon.
You can sponsor me by the hour or by a flat rate; every little bit helps. When I have completed the Blogathon, you will recieve information on how to pay your pledge directly to Health Care for All. All you have to do is register an account (name & email address so they can contact you when it is all over) on Blogathon, and then go to my campaign page, http://www.blogathon.org/blogathon.php?campaign&id=113
, then simply submit on the pledge box the money you wish to donate. Do NOT click the donation link which goes straight to Health Care for All website... this is for later. Now you only PLEDGE.
During Blogathon, I encourage you to check my blog for postings. Email me, IM me, cheer me on & most importantly keep me awake! As a sponsor, you, of course, can sleep. The next morning check your email for information telling you how much - and how - to make your donation.
Here is a list of all the websites that you need to know for more information but if there is anything else that you need to know, please don't hesitate to contact me. http://www.blogathon.org
...the main Blogathon Website. http://www.blogathon.org/blogathon.php?campaign&id=113
the direct link to sponsor me, once you are registered & logged on! http://kimee.blog-city.com
... My Blog! http://www.hcfama.org/
... Health Care for All.
Check my blog often because I am going to be giving away things in order to motivate you to sponsor me. Please help and I look forward to seeing your name on the sponsor list!

Hey, I just joined. I've been wanting to do some community service but my stupid schedule kept getting in the way. And since I'm addicted to blogging and I'm a horrible insomniac, I thought this was my perfect opportunity to do something. So I'm all excited now!
But I was just wondering, how exactly do I go about finding sponsors? How did you do it?

hi ya from Cricket's Corner!
I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself! Last year I was so excited to do Blogathon and deeply sad when I read about the hiatus. I did manage to get hooked into Project Blog though and raised some money for my city's animal shelter, which will be my charity of choice again this year. I look forward to visiting a lot of your sites!!! Current Mood: dorky

Blogathon.org is still "coming soon" - just thought I'd throw Project Blog
out as the alternative. I know some people did Project Blog last year. I'd still prefer Blogathon.org, but it's not up
Mostly, I'm posting this as a reminder to check Project Blog as time gets closer!

...and cause for concern.... as of today, http://blogathon.org/
has the following message up:I wanted to do the Blogathon this year, but there just isn't room in my life right now.
There will be a blogathon this year, done by some good friends of mine. Details soon. Watch this space!
I'll absolutely continue waching that space, of course - but I'll also be prepared to run a renegade Blog-A-Thon like I did in 2004.
Here's hoping that the site admin gets to feeling better, though.
